Open since 1988, Kensington Bird and Animal Hospital is a full-service veterinary medical facility, located in Kensington, CT. Our experienced veterinarians and staff specialize in the treatment of avian and exotic patients and provide them with the best possible medical and surgical care. In fact, our hospital is specifically designed and equipped to meet the unique needs of the wide variety of species we treat.   • Dr. Theresa Cianciolo

    Veterinarian, Practice Owner
    While attending veterinary school, Dr. Cianciolo first had to opportunity to spend some time at Kensington Bird and Animal Hospital as an extern.  In 1995, Dr. Cianciolo earned her veterinary degree from Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine.  From that point, she spent several years at busy multi-doctor practices in Wolcott and Prospect, CT.  When, in 2000, Dr. Giddings sought her out as a new associate, Dr. Cianciolo realized that she did indeed wish to focus on avian and exotic medicine and she joined the practice.  Dr. Cianciolo became owner of Kensington Bird and Animal Hospital in 2005 and has pledged to maintain the integrity and reputation of the practice, which is celebrating 25 years of service in 2013.  She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Association of Avian Veterinarians, Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians, and the Connecticut Veterinary Medical Association.  In her free time, she enjoys hiking, reading, and spending time with her beautiful, young son.  She shares her home with her four cats, four dogs, and four birds, including her Dusky Pionus (Basil) and her Green-Cheeked Conure (Morticia). 
  • Dr. Kristin Sinclair, DABVP (Avian & Exotic Companion Mammal Practice)



    Dr. Sinclair, a New Hampshire native, received her veterinary degree from the University of Tennessee in 2005.  She then completed a small animal rotating internship at Garden State Veterinary Specialists in 2006, and an avian and exotics internship at the Broward Avian and Exotic Animal Hospital in 2007.  She completed a residency in Companion Animal and Exotic Pet Medicine and Surgery at the University of California, Davis, in 2011 and became a board-certified specialist in avian medicine in 2012.  She finally moved back to New England in 2011 and is very happy to be close to home! Dr Sinclair joined the KBAH team in 2013. Her interests include soft tissue surgery and small mammal medicine, particularly small rodents.  She is owned by two rambunctious cat-beasts (Tessie and Cal), six rats (Percy, Dorian, Rudy, Lindsey, Norie & Piper), one mouse (Max) and two leopard geckos (Yuuko and Motoko) and a husband. In her spare time she enjoys reading, hiking, obstacle course racing, watching the Red Sox, and playing baseball/softball and soccer.

  • Dr. Ashley Kelley


    Dr. Kelley will be joining the KBAH team in August of 2018. She grew up in Simsbury and has worked in the animal field for over 15 years. She graduated from the University of Glasgow Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 2012 with a distinction in small animal clinical studies. Prior to veterinary school, she graduated from UConn with a BS in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. She has a certification from the USDA APHIS for International Health Certificates. She is a member of the AAV, CVMA, AVMA, and AAHA.  She has a passion for working with exotics and small mammals and is looking forward to working more with these species! She recently welcomed a baby girl, Rylee, who is 2 months old. She also enjoys gardening, hiking, geocaching, and reading. 
  • Dr. Katie Lee


    Dr. Katie Lee joins us as a full time Associate Veterinarian. Dr. Lee grew up in Livonia, MI and has been working in the animal field for 14 years. She attended Michigan State University for her Bachelor of Science degree, majoring in Animal Science, with a concentration in Companion and Exotic Animal Biology. She also received her DVM from Michigan State University. Dr. Lee shares her home with a 4 ½ year old Great Dane named Dyna; a one year old Black-Headed Caique named Piper; and a 7+ year old Oriental Fire Bellied Toad named Diego. She also maintains a 75 gallon freshwater tank. She is a member of the AEMV, AVMA, AAV, and is a fear free professional. What Dr. Lee is looking forward to most about working at KBAH is practicing high quality medicine on dogs, cats, and exotics in a collaborative and fun family environment. Her hobbies include working on the planted fish tank, breeding Angelfish, teaching Piper new songs and teaching Dyna new tricks. She also enjoys gardening, kayaking, watching Michigan State football games, renovating her new home, Irish dancing, attending charity events such as walks and volunteering at soup kitchens, and spending time with her husband, Mike.

    Lead Veterinary Technician, Certified Avian Specialist
    One of our longest-standing employees, Michelle has been with us since 2000.  In constant motion, Michelle continually strives to provide the best possible care for all of our patients as well as maintain the team-oriented approach for which we are known.  Michelle enjoys working at KBAH because our team truly puts the welfare of the animals first and we are dedicated to providing the best possible care to all of the patients we treat. Michelle is a mother of two beautiful daughters as well as two dogs (Abby and Madison), and one cat (Spike).
  • Kaitlin

    Veterinary Technician, Certified Avian Specialist
    Beginning as a volunteer in 2003, Kaitlin has diligently worked her way up to her current position as a veterinary technician.  Kaitlin’s interest in animals led her to take the vocational agriculture program at Lyman Hall High School and later to begin her studies in Biology at the University of New Haven.  Kaitlin is dedicated to learning about the wide variety of species we treat and she feels that Kensington Bird and Animal Hospital is unique in this way.  She really enjoys working with such a close-knit staff. An avid aquarium hobbyist, Kaitlin is owned by an assortment of animals including: a Solomon Island Eclectus (Dallas), a budgie (Dolce), and her fish (Widge and Major). When not at work, Kaitlin enjoys hiking, fishing, and just being outdoors.
  • Shellie

    Veterinary Technician

    Shellie joined us in June 2013 as a full-time technician. Shellie, originally from Sackville, NB, Canada, graduated from Mount Allison University in 2004. She obtained her veterinary Assistant Certificate from Tunxis Community College in 2010. She is currently working towards her Associate of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology through Perdue University. Shellie interned at the Beardsley Zoo for 3 terms from September 2012- August 2013. At home, she has a one-legged society finch named Isis. One thing that Shellie loves about working at KBAH is that you never know what species will come through the door next. Her co-workers also make it a fun environment in which to work and learn. In her spare time, Shellie enjoys crocheting, birding, photography, reading, and spending time with her husband and children.

  • Briana

    Certified Veterinary Technician

     Briana started with us as a volunteer and extern and will be joining us full time in May of 2015 as a certified veterinary technician. She will be receiving her degree this May from Middlesex Community College. Briana is from the Middletown/Meriden area and worked for Silver Sands Veterinary Center in the summer of 2014 as well as Piper Olson Veterinary Hospital in starting in the fall of 2014. She has a 5 year old, all black, domestic long hair cat named Spooky. Briana is a member of the student chapter of the National Association of Veterinary Technicians is America. What she loves most about working at KBAH is that everyone is friendly, helpful, and always willing to teach. She loves that the staff is able to help wildlife animals. She feels that the atmosphere is welcoming and feels like home. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, hiking, painting, cooking, playing video games, and reading comic books. 

  • Shannon

    Veterinary Technician

    Shannon joined us in July of 2017 as a part-time veterinary technician. She attended Norwalk Community College and received both her Associate of Science as well as her Veterinary Technology Associate certificate. Shannon has been working as a technician for one year but has over four years of animal-related experience. She previously worked at the Westport Nature Center and volunteered in New Zealand with a Kiwibird Conversation group.  She is a certified member of the Fear Free Initiative. She enjoys hiking with her rescue dog, George, who is a 2 ½ year old Shepherd mix. She also shares her home with her two rescue rabbits, Radar – a 10 year old Dutch, and Pearl – a 3 year old Chinchilla mix. After doing an externship with us, Shannon got to see what a close-knit staff we have and we were happy to have her join our family! She loves working with wildlife and the other wonderful creatures that we see. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and reading.

    Veterinary Technician

    Lori joined us as a veterinary technician in May of 2016. She has her Associate’s Degree in Performing Arts from Naugatuck Valley Community College and holds her Veterinary Assistant Certificate from Tunxis Community College. She has a 1 ½ year old boxer/pit bull maxi named Gambit and a 1 ½ year old pit bull named Rogue. Gambit and Rogue love to go on long hikes with her. Lori also enjoys teaching dance and all things Disney. What she loves most about working at KBAH is that every day is a surprise. You never know what species you will get to work with each day. She also loves that we are a close-knit group of people and that the staff is very helpful and full of energy.

    Veterinary Technician

    Erica joined the kbah team in July 2018 as a full-time veterinary technician. She recently received her Veterinary Technician Certification after attending the Norwalk Community College veterinary technician program. She grew up in Meriden and attended Lyman Hall High School. She has been working in the animal field for 15 years and has worked as a breeding barn manager for a few horse farms. She also attended Colorado State University, majoring in Equine Science. She holds her BS in Equine Science and her AS in Veterinary Technology. She has a 15 year old husky mix named Jesse and a 4 year old bearded dragon named Marilyn. She enjoys horseback riding, quilting, reading, and backpacking and hiked the Appalachian Trail in 2015! Erica is enjoys working with exotics and wildlife.
  • Jenn

    Veterinary Technician

    Jenn joined KBAH in October of 2018 and is local to the Berlin area. She has worked in the animal care field for over 6 years and is a professional dog trainer and graduated from CT K9 Education Center. She is also a wildlife rehabilitator.  She has 3 dogs: Daisy, a 9 year old Black Lab; Honcho, a 2 year old Alaskan Malamute; and Lefty, a 3 year old Terrier Mix. She also has 1 veiled chameleon and a koi pond. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, hiking, dog sledding, snow mobiling, riding quads, motorcycles, and dirt bikes. She also likes to travel and go to car shows. What she loves most about KBAH is the wide variety of species seen on any given day. She also likes learning multiple new things every day and that KBAH is a family atmosphere that focuses on client education. 
  • Allison

    Veterinary Technician

    Allison joined KBAH in August of 2015 as a full time veterinary technician and receptionist. She has a degree in Biology with a Zoology concentration and Chemistry minor from Southern Connecticut State University. Allison has been working in the animal care industry for 5 years and formerly worked with birds and reptiles at a pet store as well as a veterinary clinic. Allison shares her home with 2 Senegals (Louie and Vergil; ages 3 & 4), 2 Parrotlets (Stanley and Emmy; age 5), a Red Tail Boa (Ekans; age 3), and a 14 year old cat named Tiger. Her hobby is saltwater fish and reef tanks. She also likes playing xbox and has recently started gardening hibiscus plants. Allison is currently attending Midwestern University College of Veterinary Medicine in Arizona to become a licensed veterinarian. We wish her the best of luck with her school work!

    Veterinary Technician/Front Office Staff

    Anthony officially joined our team in May 2009, but he was a familiar face at KBAH long before that time as one of our clients. Anthony has spent over sixteen years accumulating experience in the veterinary field, and is a wealth of knowledge regarding animal behavior and husbandry of numerous species. He is an active member of the Connecticut Parrot Society, Connecticut Association for Aviculture, and the International Association of Avian Trainers and Educators. When he is not up front greeting you with his unique sense of humor, Anthony cares for his animal pack at home including four dogs, many birds, and assorted other small mammals.

  • Sarah

    Front Office Staff

    Sarah joined us in January of 2011 as a full time Receptionist and Kennel Attendant. Sarah has over 18 years of experience in the pet industry and is a former pet shop owner. Sarah earned her Bachelor of Science in biology at UConn in 1997.  She shares her home with two Siamese Cats; Simon and Cece as well as a Domestic Medium Hair Cat; Abba. She also owns two residents at the hospital - a Blue and Gold Macaw; Sam and Persian & Himalayan Cat; Muttface. What Sarah loves most about working at KBAH is the family atmosphere as well as the compassion that the doctors and staff show towards their patients. In her spare time, Sarah can be seen eating at her favorite restaurant, Harry’s Place, in Colchester. She also enjoys hiking, playing basketball, fishing, and shopping.

    Front Office Staff

    Katie Moreau joined our team in May 2015 as a full-time Front Office Staff Member. Katie has over 6 years of experience working in the animal field at Petsmart and as an intern at New England WILD Center & Zoological Park from 2011-2012. She has a Bachelor of Science in Wildlife & Conservation Biology from the University of New Hampshire. As part of her diverse background, she has completed training and enrichment programs with a variety of exotic animals. Katie shares her home with a 6 year old Border Collie/Lab Mix -Tucker, a 2 year old Green Cheek Conure - FiFi, and a 13 year old African Sideneck Turtle - Henry. Katie likes working here because you never know what you’ll see next walking through the door. She loves learning about various species while interacting with and educating pet parents. Katie plays volleyball, softball, and table tennis as well as horseback riding, hiking, and swimming.

    Front Office Staff
    Alexandra joins us as a full-time receptionist. She is from Durham, CT and has worked in the animal-related field for about 10 years. She is a wildlife rehabber and has worked with KBAH as a transporter of our injured wildlife. She has a 1 year old cat named Ruby and a 2 year old cat named Keerah. She enjoys working with and rescuing wildlife and also volunteers at Animal Friends of CT (AFOC). She is excited to continue learning everything she can about animals and our amazing staff at KBAH. In her free time, she also enjoys gardening, working at her family farm, fishing, hiking, playing with her kids, cooking, reading, and working with clay and beading.

    Boarding Specialist

    Cote joined our team in June of 2018 as a part-time boarding specialist/kennel attendant. He grew up in Durham, CT and attended Coginchaug Regional High School. He also attended Middlesex Community College. Cote has been surrounded by animals his entire life and is looking forward to working more closely with the species seen at our hospital. He previously volunteered at Like a Feather. He has a boxer-lab mix named Tessie and a short-haired cat named JoJo, 10 chickens, and 3 turkeys that he lovingly refers to as "The Girls." He is an active member of the National Wildlife Federation since 2012. He loves working at KBAH because he learns something new every day and enjoys sharing the love that he has for animals with our staff and clients. In his spare time, he likes camping in RI, taking care of his small family farm and perennial gardens "Grey Gardens", listing to music (especially Fleetwood Mac). He also serves and bar tends at "Our Place" pizza restaurant. He loves his close-knit, traditional Italian-American family and enjoys going to tag sales, flea markets, and exploring old and abandoned places.

    Boarding Specialist

    Lorin joined KBAH in May 2012 as a part-time kennel attendant. She is currently attending Southern Connecticut State University, majoring in Art Education. Lorin will be graduating in 2015 with a BS in Secondary Education and Art.  She is a very talented artist and has painted the murals on our windows and various signs around KBAH.  At home, Lorin has a black lab named Blaze. Lorin likes working with animals and is constantly learning new things about the field. She has met many amazing people and their pets and enjoys coming in to work each day and working with the team here at KBAH. In her spare time, she enjoys drawing, dancing, hiking, watching movies, listening to music, and reading.

    Practice Manager

    Stephanie received her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and her Master's degree in Accounting and Taxation at the University of Hartford. After three and a half years of preparing tax returns for a large public accounting firm, Stephanie joined KBAH as the Practice Manager in 2013. Her goal is to apply her background to enhance the business while continually improving the quality of care and compassion that our team provides to clients and patients.

    Dr. Giddings retired from his position at KBAH in the summer of 2009. We wish him all the best in retirement!

  • Melody

    Front Office Staff

    Melody joined our team in August 2018 as a Receptionist and will be training as a Technician. She grew up in East Windsor and is a graduate of Eastern Connecticut State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology. She has two dachshunds; Fritz who is 12 years old, and Peanut who is six years old. Melody is excited to join our team and has quickly learned that every day at KBAH is exciting – filled with great patients, clients, and a welcoming staff. She notes that our relationships with rehabilitators is unique and inspiring. She is proud to be the newest member of the KBAH family. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, powerlifting, hiking, and swimming. Melody has left KBAH as of August 2019 as she moves to a new position with a veterinary hospital in Arizona. We wish Melody the best of luck!
